Admissions, exclusions & SEN
Pupil pastoral issues form a large part of the advice which is required of us by independent schools. Whether in relation to admissions, disciplinary procedures, sanctions, or SEN, schools must exercise caution day-by-day so as to ensure compliance with duties under equality legislation.
It is not always easy to identify whether a child suffers from a disability and what adjustments may be reasonable in the circumstances. We have extensive experience of advising schools on making adaptations to buildings, practices and procedures in recognition of SEN and disability. Good management of parent expectations and communications is key to achieving the best solutions.
Equality is also a growing area of concern for schools, with gender and sexual orientation issues becoming more common.
