Information Commissioner to get New Powers

The Information Commissioner’s Office is to be given stronger powers according to a recent announcement. The ICO’s new powers will include those of imposing monetary penalties on organisations for deliberate or reckless loss of data, being able to require any person to provide information to determine compliance with the Data protection Act. Guidance covering when disclosure of breaches must be made will also be published.

All businesses will need to be aware of this and ensure they have appropriate data protection policies built into their commercial and employment arrangements.
