Brett Farrell - Introduction

Brett joins Barlow Robbins LLP from Mitsubishi UFJ Securities International plc (MUSI)  where he worked as a capital markets solicitor.  Brett advises on all aspects of technology and media law, although his specialty is the regulated technology sectors like the capital markets. Brett has regular discussions with contacts in the capital markets and has shared some interesting thoughts from MUSI Chief Economist, Brendan Brown

MUSI is engaged in market-making and dealing in derivatives, equities, fixed income and managing and underwriting debt and equity securities issues.  Whilst at MUSI Brett primarily focused on three areas:

  • Technology Legal Advice: Market data use; high-end technology procurement; application development advice and commercialising software.
  • Regulatory Legal Advice: Financial Services & Markets Act and FSA Rules applied to broker/dealers and market makers.
  • Infrastructure Advice: Broker agreements; exchange memberships; MTF memberships; company acquisitions; operations outsourcing.

    Brett is dual qualified in England & Wales and New South Wales Australia and has previously worked with Baker & McKenzie (Sydney and London) and the Australian firm Deacons (now Norton Rose). He has worked on deals in jurisdictions including France, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Spain, United States of America, Japan, Singapore and Hong Kong.
