Services to Solicitors

We advise a number of firms of solicitors on a range of issues.

Most of our work is in the area of:

  • advising on partnership deeds and LLP members’ agreements;
  • accessions to and retirements from the partnership or LLP;
  • conversions to LLP status or use of corporate structures;
  • intra-partnership disputes;
  • employment advice; and
  • defending professional negligence claims.

We also advise firms in relation to specific areas where our expertise differs from our solicitor clients.  For example, we often advise firms who do not have corporate departments on corporate law issues (share buybacks and shareholders’ agreements especially).  In those cases we can advise the client either directly or through the solicitor concerned, sometimes entirely undisclosed to the ultimate client.

We can also advise in relation to regulatory issues affecting law firms – money laundering, the SRA Code of Conduct etc, duties of COLPs and COFAs etc.

We have advised a number of firms of solicitors how to effect a conversion to a limited liability partnership, including giving practical advice as to how to deal and communicate with employees and clients, timing and SRA issues and practical advice as to which steps should be taken before and after the conversion.
