Trustees have the ultimate responsibility for running charities. They must have an acute understanding of charity law make sure that the charity is well run and meets its legal obligations. They are answerable to the Charity Commission as the independent regulator of charities in England and Wales.
At Barlow Robbins LLP we have assisted charities and their trustees with charity law and governance issues for many years. In the main we provide advice and guidance on the charity’s governing document and the trustees’ duties and responsibilities before difficulties with the Charity Commission arise, but if needs be we will assist trustees who are having to respond to an investigation or enquiry raised by the Charity Commission.
Frequently we are called upon to deal with variations of a charity’s governing document to update the constitution to meet the demands of today. We have also been involved with charity schemes and obtaining consents from the Charity Commission where charities formed many years ago can no longer fulfil their charitable purposes.

We keep an eye on changes in charity law as they effect charities and advise our clients on the likely impact of changes upon them with our seminar and tailored client training programme.
