Coronary heart disease and cardiac conditions are the biggest killers in both the UK and the USA. Where there is a delay in treatment or a misdiagnosis occurs there may then be a claim for clinical negligence as heart complications may occur.
- Could I have a claim?
The heart muscle relies on the continuous flow of oxygen flowing through the blood to function properly. Most cardiac diseases will start with the formation of atheroma, where there is a build up of a substance called plaque which blocks the lining of the arteries and restricts that blood flow.
Heart conditions need to be treated promptly and carefully by both GPs and hospital staff. Important tests are often performed to diagnose or risk assess these conditions.
- Our experience
The type of cases that we have had referred to us at Barlow Robbins have included the following:-
- Heart disease
- Chest pains
- Heart failure
- Angina pectoris
- Myocardial infarction/heart attack
- Aortic aneurysm
- Cardiac arrhythmias
- Types of treatment for heart conditions
The kinds of tests that cardiac patients may require are: x-rays, ECGs, CT scans and coronary angiograms. Sometimes, patients have to undergo artery bypass operations.
Where a delay in treatment or a misdiagnosis occurs there may be a claim in clinical negligence.
