Employment law changes coming into effect in April 2015

April is historically a time when a number of legislative changes come into effect, and this year the following laws are being implemented:

  • Shared parental leave is available to parents of children due to be born or placed for adoption on or after 5 April 2015.
  • Adoption rights have been increased to more closely reflect maternity rights, and extended to those adopting from outside the UK.
  • Parents will remain eligible to take unpaid parental leave up to a child’s 18th birthday (before April 2015 this was only available to parents of children under 5, unless the child was disabled).
